San Marcos, Texas based Singer/Songwriter BenJamun began writng
songs when he was fourteen while living at Canyon Lake, Texas. By
seventeen he had his first songs published in 1983 "Watching the
Children Play" and a recording of the same included in the film "Play a
Kalediscope" which is still in the ACEI(Association of Childhood
Education International) catalog to this day. In 1988 while living in
Wimberley, Texas he
released "Poems and Promises" a collection of songs that ranged from
campy pop to evocative folk rock streams of consciousness. In 1992
after coming to San Marcos he
released Amystery, a concept project that followed the course of
fictional love relationship from inception to it's end. Benjamun:" this was really a
collection of songs written during several relationships and I brought
them together with minor changes to create a story line. That way I
could explore the deeper emotional side of relationships and draw on
ten years of my own experiences grappling with this very fundamental
event which always marks a pivotal point in a persons life...."
Since
then BenJaMun has concentrated on producing other artists and writing.
He did find time to record in collaboration with his wife Kathy, five
volumes of "Christmas at the Worthams" BenJaMun:" it was mostly something
for friends and family so my wife and I invited other folks into
the studio
every year to record and basically have a good time. But we still
distribute from
200-500 copies each year around San Marcos mostly by request so it
kinda got a little out
of hand....". His newest project due out in 2005 is "Road Songs" a
collection of songs written over the last five years. The songs range
in style from pop to rock to jazz, upbeat tuneful songs as well as
gentle soliloquys and driving rock to slow blues. This breadth of
musical styles are all held together by BenJamuns unique vocal style
that pleads and growls on cue or turns to silk at any turn. Intelligent
lyrics and production makes this a showcase for an artist who is at the
top of his game.
